A free AI coding assistant for every editor. An agent, not autocomplete: it plans, edits across files and runs your tests.
Works with the editor you already use
MegaBrain runs in the sidebar of VS Code, Cursor and Windsurf through its extension, in IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, Rider and the other JetBrains IDEs through its plugin, in the terminal (so in any editor’s built-in terminal, Zed’s too), and as an app for your Mac.
An agent, not autocomplete
Instead of finishing the line you are typing, it takes a task: it reads the code, makes the change across files, runs the tests and hands you one diff to review.
90+ models, one plan
Free costs nothing and needs no card: the agent in your terminal, your editor and the Mac app, the free models, and your own API keys and local models (Ollama, LM Studio) with no limits from us. Paid plans start at $8 a month (Plus) and go up to $200 (Ultra). They include GLM, Kimi, MiniMax, DeepSeek, Qwen, Grok and Auto with a session limit and a weekly limit you can always see; from Pro ($30) Claude, GPT and Gemini are paid from credits.
Private by default
The agent runs on your machine, and your code stays there: only what a request needs goes to the model you choose. MegaBrain does not train AI models on your code.
Questions
Is there a free AI assistant for VS Code?+
Yes: the MegaBrain extension, on the free plan. VS Code installs it from the VS Code Marketplace; Cursor and Windsurf install it from Open VSX.
Is there a free AI assistant for JetBrains IDEs?+
Yes: the MegaBrain plugin for IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, Rider and the other JetBrains IDEs, on the free plan. Install it from the JetBrains Marketplace: search for MegaBrain under Settings → Plugins.
How is it different from autocomplete?+
Autocomplete suggests the next lines while you type. MegaBrain is an agent: you give it a task, and it plans, edits the files, runs the commands and tests, and shows you the result.
Is my code private?+
The agent runs on your machine, and your code stays there: only what a request needs goes to the model you choose. MegaBrain does not train AI models on your code.
How do I start?+
Install the CLI with npm install -g @getmegabrain/cli, run megabrain in your project and sign in once. Or download MegaBrain for Mac (macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon (M1 or newer)).
