Your Mac becomes a machine you can run on
The app runs the MegaBrain daemon for you, so this Mac joins your fleet as a Computer. Pick it as the environment for a session and the work happens here: your disk, your toolchain, your network.
Open the app, and it is online
Launching brings the machine online and quitting takes it back down, so a Computer is green for exactly as long as the app is running. Press Stop and that is remembered across restarts, because leaving the fleet should not mean until you next open the app.
Nothing to download but the app
The megabrain CLI ships inside the bundle. No npm, no Homebrew, no second download for the piece the app cannot work without. Signing that CLI in is still its own step, and the setup below says where.
It keeps working in the menu bar
Close the window and the app stays in the menu bar, keeping the machine available. State at a glance, and a Quit that actually stops the daemon it started.
Outbound only, by design
Every connection is one your Mac makes: a single outbound tunnel, and a heartbeat on a timer. Nothing is exposed to your network, which is what makes connecting a laptop behind a home router safe. Nothing to forward.
Your machine, and you hold the switch.
Work reaches this Mac down a single tunnel your Mac opens, so nothing listens on your network and there is no port to forward. The app is the switch: while it is running the machine takes work, and quitting takes it out of the fleet. Stop it and that decision is remembered, so a machine you took out stays out until you say otherwise.

From download to your first local session
Download and sign in
A signed and notarized build for Apple Silicon or Intel. Sign in with your MegaBrain account, the same one you use on the web.
Sign the CLI in, once
The daemon that puts this Mac in the fleet authenticates as the CLI, and the app does not hand it your web session yet. That sign-in is a separate step today, and the docs have the current command.
Pick Local and start
From then on the app starts the daemon on launch and registers this Mac under its own host name. Choose a repository, pick Local as the environment, and the session runs here. Everything else, including your cloud machines, works exactly as it does on the web.
